New Zealand Glaciers
Experts stated that New Zealand glaciers were shrinking
and one had already disappeared.
The larger glaciers had receded by some three kilometres with recent
melts reversing a slight regain over the eighties and early nineties
of the Twentieth Century caused by cold winds generated by El Ninos
on the Southern Alps. NZ Experts said on ABC national news Tuesday 14
May that the melting will continue but it will take a temperature rise
of 7 degrees Celsius to melt all the glaciers of the Southern Alps.
At the same time the Global Warming experts in UK announced that the
temperature rises were progressing much faster than expected and will
exceed seven degrees over this century.
Thus from these reports we might deduce that within the next one hundred
years the entire structure of glaciers and snows of the Southern Alps
of NZ will have disappeared.
